Jesus saith unto him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6, KJV)
When our Lord declared these words, He unveiled a truth of profound import. Man’s rebellion severed the intimate bond between Earth and Heaven, isolating the finite soul from the Infinite God. Just as an island stands apart from its continent, sin has erected an immense chasm between man and his Creator. Yet, in His abundant mercy, Jesus has become the bridge across this divide, providing the sole pathway for reconciliation with the Divine.
Without the illumination of the Holy Spirit, one cannot perceive the way nor embrace the hope that comes from above. In their ignorance, people have formulated many ideas about the journey of life; however, the only name by which salvation is granted remains that of Jesus. Through the void wrought by sin, Christ’s eternal promise resounds: “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
There exists but one Mediator between God and man. It is solely through the imputed righteousness of Christ that one is made just before God. Salvation is the gracious gift of God, received by faith and not earned by works—so that no one may boast. This divine endowment is bestowed by God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
After the adversary led Adam and Eve into sin, the connection between Heaven and Earth was irreparably broken. Were it not for Christ, the heavenly pathway would have remained shrouded from the fallen race. Christ is the spiritual ladder whose base is set upon the Earth and whose summit reaches the throne of the Almighty. Although humanity finds itself marred by sin and estranged from God, through the righteousness of Christ we are granted access to the Father.
Jesus also declared, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.” (John 10:9, KJV) Rejoice, all people, for Christ has constructed a bridge over the vast void created by sin, linking the earthly realm with Heaven. A rising path has been prepared for the redeemed; the weary and oppressed are invited to come unto Him and find rest for their souls, while the pilgrim journeys toward the mansions He hath prepared for those who love Him.
