Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection? – Job 11:7 (KJV).
God cannot be fully comprehended through human effort alone. Yet, He has revealed Himself in His Son, Jesus Christ, who is the radiance of the Father’s glory and the express image of His person. If we desire to know God, we must emulate Christ. A pure life, lived in faith and reliance on Christ as a personal Savior, will bring a deeper and clearer understanding of God’s character.
Eternal life is the reward for those who live in harmony with the two great principles of God’s law: love for God and love for others. The first four commandments define our duty to God, and the last six outline our responsibility to one another. True knowledge of God—a saving knowledge—is demonstrated through obedience to these commandments. Love for God is revealed through love and service to those for whom Christ gave His life.
From the cloud of His presence, Christ instructed humanity about the principles of love. He clearly outlined the heavenly standards His people are to follow in their interactions with others. These principles were not only taught but exemplified in Christ’s life on earth. His teachings revealed the motives that should guide the lives of His followers.
Those who experience the love of God through the acceptance of His truth will show evidence of that love by striving to share the message of salvation with others. They become co-laborers with Christ, united with Him through the golden chain of love. Their lives are bound to His in a holy and elevated union. From this connection flow constant streams of Christ’s love into their hearts, which then overflow to those around them.
The essential qualities for truly knowing God are the very traits that marked the character of Christ: His love, patience, and selflessness. These attributes grow in the heart as they are nurtured by acts of kindness and compassion. A gentle spirit and a readiness to serve others reflect the divine nature.
Let us strive to embody the love of Christ in all we do, allowing His character to be reflected in us and bringing glory to the God we seek to know. By doing so, we not only draw nearer to Him but also help others to experience His transformative love.
