"For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich." – 2 Corinthians 8:9 (KJV)

This world was visited by the Majesty of Heaven, the Son of God. Christ came as the very expression of God’s heart, mind, nature, and character. He was the brightness of the Father's glory, the express image of His person. Yet, He laid aside His royal robes and crown, stepping down from His exalted throne to take the place of a servant. Though He was rich, for our sake, that we might inherit eternal riches, He became poor. He made the world, yet emptied Himself so completely that during His ministry, He declared: “The Son of man hath not where to lay his head.” – Luke 9:58 (KJV)

Christ stood at the head of humanity, clothed in human flesh. His compassion and love were so evident that even the poorest and most destitute did not fear approaching Him. He was kind to all, accessible to the humblest. He went from home to home, healing the sick, feeding the hungry, comforting the mourning, and soothing the afflicted. He spoke words of peace to those burdened with sorrow. He took little children in His arms, blessing them, and spoke encouragement and hope to weary mothers. With tireless kindness and tender care, He faced every form of human suffering and affliction. He lived not for Himself but for others. Always willing to humble Himself and deny self, He sought no recognition. He was the servant of all. His joy was to bring comfort and relief, to gladden the sorrowful, and to uplift the oppressed.

Christ stands before us as the perfect example, the great Physician and Missionary—an inspiration to all who follow after Him. His pure and holy love blessed all who came within His reach. His character was entirely perfect, free from the slightest stain of sin. He came as the full expression of God’s love, not to crush, judge, or condemn, but to restore every weak and broken character, to rescue men and women from the power of Satan. He is the Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer of humanity.

Let us look to Him, the Model Man, and follow in His footsteps, seeking not to be served, but to serve.
