"We have a high priest who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; a minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord set up, and not man." – Hebrews 8:1-2 (KJV)

The Bible provides a clear explanation of the sanctuary and its significance. The word "sanctuary" refers first to the earthly tabernacle constructed under God’s direction by Moses, which symbolized heavenly realities, and second to the "true tabernacle" in Heaven. This heavenly sanctuary is the focal point of God’s plan of redemption under the new covenant. When Christ died, the ceremonial system of the earthly sanctuary came to an end, but its deeper meaning continues in the work of the heavenly sanctuary.

The structure and services of the earthly tabernacle mirrored those of the heavenly sanctuary. The earthly sanctuary's two apartments represented the two phases of Christ’s heavenly ministry. In vision, John saw the heavenly sanctuary and observed "seven lamps of fire burning before the throne" (Revelation 4:5 KJV). He also saw an angel with "a golden censer" offering "much incense" along with "the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne" (Revelation 8:3 KJV). These scenes represent the heavenly reality corresponding to the golden lampstand and altar of incense found in the earthly tabernacle.

Later, John described the opening of "the temple of God" in Heaven, where he saw "the ark of His testament" (Revelation 11:19 KJV). This ark in Heaven, containing God's law, corresponds to the sacred ark constructed by Moses for the most holy place in the earthly sanctuary. The sanctuary reminds us of God’s eternal covenant and His desire to dwell among His people.

The earthly tabernacle, designed according to the pattern revealed to Moses, was a reflection of the true sanctuary in Heaven. When Christ ascended, He began His work as our High Priest, interceding on behalf of humanity. He is our Advocate, standing in the presence of God for us.

Let us rejoice that we have a Savior who ministers in the heavenly sanctuary, ensuring that His grace and mercy are always available to us. Through Him, we are invited to approach the throne of God with boldness, knowing we are accepted and loved.
