Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. – 1 Peter 5:6, KJV
All of Heaven joins in cooperation with those who come to Christ in search of eternal life, submitting to Him fully as those who have surrendered all to God. The Lord calls His servants to stand under the bloodstained banner of Prince Emmanuel, fighting in His strength to keep the principles of truth pure and uncorrupted. They are never to depart from the path of self-denial and humility—this is the way every true Christian must walk.
As they work together with God in this way, Christ is formed within them—the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27). Clothed in His meekness and lowliness, they find their highest joy in serving Him. Earthly ambitions fade away, replaced by a deeper longing to honor their Master.
“Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off” (Psalm 138:6, KJV). “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise” (Psalm 51:17, KJV). Those who reflect the gentle and humble spirit of Christ are graciously regarded by God. Nothing about them escapes His notice. He sees their self-denial, their quiet efforts to lift up Christ before the world. Though the world may view such lives with disregard, God sees them as precious.
It is not only the wise, the prominent, or the outwardly successful who will enter the courts of Heaven—not only those filled with zeal and tireless energy. No, it is the pure in heart, in whose mouth is found no deceit. It is the poor in spirit, guided by the indwelling Spirit of Christ. It is the peacemakers, whose highest ambition is to do the will of God. These are the ones who will receive an abundant entrance into the kingdom. They are the jewels of God, counted among that great multitude John described, saying: “And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude… saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth” (Revelation 19:6, KJV).
They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. “Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them” (Revelation 7:15, KJV).
This is the heavenly fellowship promised to the humble, faithful soul—a reward not of earthly greatness, but of quiet surrender and love-filled service.
