“Not every one that saith unto Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of My Father which is in heaven.”—Matthew 7:21 (KJV)

Religious profession is of no value unless good works testify to the sincerity and reality of one’s faith. Those who make bold declarations of belief yet show no fruit of godliness reveal they are not abiding in the True Vine. “Ye shall know them by their fruits” (Matthew 7:16, KJV). Without this evidence, they are as withered branches.

For many, the experience of conversion has become confusing due to teachings that distort the meaning of true religion. Coming to Christ means more than simply joining a church. There are many whose names appear in the records of the church, yet are missing from the Lamb’s book of life. Coming to Jesus does not require mental anguish or strenuous effort. It is a matter of accepting the conditions of salvation that God has clearly revealed in His Word.

God desires the willing service of our hearts. He has entrusted us with reason, abilities, resources, and influence—not for selfish gain, but to bless others and reveal His Spirit to the world. Precious opportunities lie within our reach. If we neglect them, we rob others, cheat ourselves, and dishonor our Creator. We would not want to face these neglected opportunities in the day of judgment. Our eternal destiny depends on our faithful use of the talents God has given, for the salvation of souls.

True religion is the active principle of God’s law—love to God and love to our fellow man. Those who will be accepted into heaven are those who have invested their talents for God's glory and the good of others. They become co-workers with the Lord, and when Christ returns in the clouds of heaven, they will receive His approval.

Religion is more than a profession, more than a fleeting feeling. It is doing the will of God through faith in Christ.
