And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.— John 6:35, KJV
Many are weary and starving spiritually, because instead of feeding on the Bread which came down from heaven, they fill their minds with things of little value. But when the sinner partakes of the Bread of Life, they are revived and restored—they become truly alive. This heavenly Bread brings new vitality to weakened souls. The Holy Spirit will take of the things of God and reveal them, and if they are received, the character will be cleansed of selfishness, refined, and made ready for heaven.
To the careless, the indifferent, the disinterested, and those standing on the edge of ruin, Christ says: “Open the door of your heart; let Me in, and I will make you a child of God.” He promises to transform your weak and sinful nature into the divine image, imparting beauty and completeness to your soul.
Christ offers not only the Bread of Life but also the Water of Life. This living water flows like a spring unto everlasting life. It is life-giving and purifying, for it proceeds from the throne of God.
Those who allow God to work within them will grow into the full stature of men and women in Christ Jesus. Every faculty of mind and body will be employed in His service. God has rich blessings for all who are willing to receive from Him. He is mighty in strength and wonderful in counsel. Through the working of the Holy Spirit, He speaks to engrave His likeness upon our characters. If we draw our nourishment from Him, we will become new creatures in Christ Jesus.
The virtue of a true Christian character—the excellencies seen in the life of Christ—will be revealed in those born of the Spirit. Humanity, though fallen, will become partaker of the divine nature. The power of Christ will work to sanctify every part of our being, infusing life, energy, and righteousness into the whole person and developing spiritual effectiveness.
