Genesis 2:7: "The LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."
Answer: Man is a combination of dust and the breath of life. (Living soul = dust + breath of life)
What happens to man’s body at death?
Genesis 3:19: "For dust you are, and to dust you shall return."
Answer: The body returns to the dust.
What is the nature of man’s breath?
Job 27:3: "All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils."
Answer: The breath of life is the spirit given by God.
Does man have an immortal soul?
Ezekiel 18:4: "The soul who sins shall die."
Answer: The soul is mortal and can die.
The State of the Dead
What happens to man's breath at death?
Psalm 146:4: "His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish."
Answer: The breath leaves, and thoughts cease.
Where does man's spirit go at death?
Ecclesiastes 12:7: "The dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns unto God who gave it."
Answer: The spirit (breath of life) returns to God.
Do the dead have any awareness?

Answer: The dead are unconscious.

Answer: The dead are silent and cannot praise God.

Answer: The righteous are raised immortal and incorruptible.

1 Corinthians 15:22: "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive."
Answer: Resurrection is made possible through Christ.
When will immortality be given to the righteous?
1 Corinthians 15:53: "For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality."
Answer: Immortality is given at the resurrection.
What will be the final victory over death?

Answer: Death will be defeated at the resurrection.

What is the ultimate fate of man without God?
Romans 6:23: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Answer: Without God, man dies; eternal life is only through Christ.
Who alone possesses immortality?
1 Timothy 6:15-16: "Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto."
Answer: Only God is immortal.
What is the final condition of the redeemed?
Luke 20:36: "Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels."
Answer: The redeemed will live forever, equal to the angels.
